These settings must ensure a rapid emergency response: care staff able to provide first aid and CPR to older adults until medical help arrives. INFOTEP offers elderly-caregiver courses that include first aid; as this is an unregulated occupation, in practice a standalone certificate is required by employers and agencies.

A recognized, up-to-date first-aid certificate is the way to meet this requirement; it is in addition to the caregiver's occupational training and must be renewed periodically.
